My senior prom nightbecame a comedy of errors when I was asked to represent thedrama club. Iepected it to be a night that dreams are madeof instead, Iwas provided with a less than perfect evening
Iwanted to give Richard, my dateand escort, a dazzling first impression by meeting him at the door in my beautiful soultem belle dress. When Richard arrived, he was met at the door by my fatherinstead of me, and he found my mother lying at my feet on the living room floor, sewing thehem in my formal,finally, after what seemed like atn eternity, my mother announced that she was finished and that we werw late for the prom.
Idecided to relax and compose my self in the car, but instead of a comfortable coach, Ifound a cramped pumpkin awaiting me in the from of a fiat, As Igot insidethe car, I realized thatmost of my dress was still outside, QUICKLY, Ibegan piling layer after layer of fabric on my lap until it reached the ceilinh and obscured my viem ont of the car windows.
Arriving at the prom in silence, my escorl and I werw Quickly ushered into position behind theotherrepresentatives. The procession started, Ifelt like Cinderella at the ball. While the announcer introduced the represent tatives and their escorts, Ivisualized my self walking gracefullyupthe ramp as the audience looked on.
Before Iknew it, thespotlight was on us, As we slowly made ourway uptheramp, yhe announcer introduces us as judy and juan. Hearing thenames of sameone else shocked both ofus. It is a least twenty years lates and Ican still remember my firstvisit to Ratu Indah café. Stopping in to see if anyone could tell us where to locate the turn wehad missed, my husband and I received a large doseof cultureshock, it seemed as if we had opened the door to the decades;A place where generations come and went, a place wheretime stood still and passed by at tha some time
When entering the door at Ratu Indah two things are immediately noticeable; The place is rarely emply and seems to consist of a maze of rooms, the first room, through the door, is the main part of the restaurant, there is another, rarely used, dining room of to thenight. It was added duringtheoilwell boom of the seventies.through the main dining room isyet another room; it gurrds the door leading intothe kitcher. The room contains the most civeted table in the place. It is nowonder that almostall schoolaged children between seven and fifteen years old go toschoolsending those school aged children to schools,whereboys and girs are of egual rights,iscompulsory.
Senior high school students are expected to continue their studies at university after they finish high school. They areexpected tosucceed after being tested, it is not easy to pass the entrance examination to state universitiesor institutes.
