BANGKO WATERFALL

Palleko is one of sub districts in Takalar regency. It lies about 35 kilometres from Makassar. It is a mountainous region. There are some resorts that can make us interested to visit them. The most beautiful place that people rarely visit in Palleko is Bangko waterfall.
Bangko waterfall is a natural beautiful place. It looks like a hidden place because it’s far from the street. But it’s ok. It’s really exciting for sightseeing. We just take ojek until the entrance and then, go by on foot for about a kilometre to reach the place. On the way you’ll feel the fresh air around you and see a beautiful scene of the forest.
You can also see some scarce birds singing around you. If you’re lucky, you’ll see some wild parrots perching on a branch. Sometimes there are some little birds crossing in front of us and hiding in the bushes. We also sometimes see crows flying on the tree. And there are many kinds of birds we don’t know during crossing the forest.
After crossing the forest, you’ll see a small river with a beautiful waterfall at the end of it. That’s the Bangko Waterfall. The water is so fresh and clear. So people can play together in it. Around the waterfall, there are some old big trees growing on the big stones. People can take a rest and lay down themselves
It is safe there. We don’t have to buy a single ticket to have fun. But there is no villa there. So it would be better if we make a camp around the river and make firewood at night. It’s really nice. About a half kilometre near the waterfall, there is a small village inhabited by friendly villagers. So if we need a help, just call them.
Bangko waterfall is a beautiful place to visit. People sometimes make it as a camping area. And in dry season, some people come to visit this waterfall just to spend their holiday.

EARTHQUAKE IN BIMA
DESTROYING ABOUT 500 HUNDREDS HOUSES

It was on December 5th 2007 in Dompu, a fifteen kilometres village from Bima. All the villagers were fallen asleep instead of our family, and there was no activity around that time. Just some insects sang at night. The night was silent. Suddenly, at around 01.00 o’clock AM, the land was shaken hardly. An earthquake was up.
The earthquake happened suddenly when all people were fallen asleep. Our village was shaken hardly and make all the villagers woke up surprisingly. Some of them shouted “earthquake!, earthquake!”, My family and I ran out from the house trying to save our live. I didn’t know what we had to do. All the villagers ran away randomly and saved all they could save.
After around five minutes, the earthquake stopped shaking the village. About five hundreds houses were broken down. Most of the villagers were injured and some of them died fallen by their houses. Some mothers shouted and cried looking for their families. My family and I were saved. We tried to help other people in the darkness although none of the light was on.
After several hours, same people still tried to find their families. They came to see the broken down houses hoping that there were some villagers still alive. I tried to help the others by picking up some victims that we could save.
Not taking along time, the ambulances came. We helped them to pick up the victims. Some doctors and nurses tried to bandage the victims and gave some medicines to them. Some of them who got severe pain tried to be driven to nearest hospital.
This was the second time the earthquake happened in our village. But it was the most one. We hope this accident doesn’t happen again. And it makes us realize how dangerous the earthquake is. Now, the government has prepared all the possibility if the earthquake comes again. This accident becomes a worthy lesson and we hope it doesn’t happen again.
